Part of the Scottish Highlands, the Isle of Skye is as magical as the name implies.
Join the Photography Workshop Company on a culturally immersive photography adventure in one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. During this seven day tour, we will explore all that the Scottish countryside has to offer!
This workshop has been intentionally designed to not only provide exceptional photographic opportunities, but for our guests to become fully immersed in the culture. We believe that your artistic creativity will scale to new heights when you are equipped with the knowledge and experience of what life is like in such a culturally rich location. Cultural experiences include whiskey tasting, and an evening of Scottish storytelling and learning a few steps of traditional folk dancing. In addition, we will be guided by a local, because we know that nobody knows the hidden gems like locals do.
This will be the trip of a lifetime and photos aren’t the only thing you’ll return home with.

EXPERIENCE • BEGINNER - ADVANCED
Our excursions are beneficial for both the beginner and seasoned photographer. All guests will experience one-on-one instruction, with the emphasis being on the individual's strengths and desires.ACTIVITY • MODERATE
Most of the locations we have scheduled will be within the ability of anyone who is in moderate shape. Although some walking will be necessary, there are no trecherous elements involved.TERRAIN • LOCH'S - MOUNTAINS - VILLAGES
There may be no place so magical or iconic as the Scottish Highlands. This adventure will have you photographing both the iconic locations, and the lesser known spots ready to be explored and captured. The workshop includes castles, gorgeous panoramic views and more!GROUP SIZE • 8 GUESTS
We believe group size is important for the ability to provide as much one-on-one instruction in the field as necessary. Due to the help from locals on this trip, our group size will be four guests per instructor.Itinerary
All locations and times visited will be determined by the conditions given. All elements are watched closely for the best photographic and learning experience.
Bonus Session
We've listened to our guests and have implemented something that has been hugely beneficial in our time together. Each workshop group will be invited to a live, recorded, online critique and post processing session, a short time after the workshop. This makes way for more shooting in the field and the option to learn from the comfort of your home and the ability to refer to the recorded session for future reference.
Day One
Once you arrive in Edinburgh, arrangements will be made for you to be picked up and whisked away to Isle of Skye. Upon arrival, you'll be met at the airport (EDI) and transported to our hotel in the lovely small town of Portree, where a warm welcome will be waiting for you.
Our evening will include an overview of the workshop. We’ll explore the small town and let you get settled into your room before our first full day of adventure.
Day Two
We will capture our first sunrise with spectacular views of the Old Man of Storr, a 180 foot pinnacle of basalt rock located on the Trotternish Ridge. This is quite possibly one of the most iconic locations you’ll see. Following our sunrise location, we’ll also capture a lovely waterfall, and a quiet loch.
We’ll return for a meal and short break before picking back up in the afternoon to capture sunset together on the Western shores of Scotland. Together we’ll practice long exposures and learn how to create dramatic and compelling images with powerful foregrounds.
Day Three
Our day will begin with sunrise over one of the most majestic and enchanting landscapes in the Isle of Skye, the Quiraing. Poet, Alexander Smith called this breathtaking landscape “a nightmare of nature”, for nature photographers, we happen to think it’s a dream come true.
After we capture sunrise and the rolling hills, we’ll visit several locations near this area before enjoying coffee and brunch.
After a break, we’ll pick back up in the afternoon we’ll visit a lighthouse on the western shores, and the iconic Eilean Donan Castle for sunset and blue hour. This day will quite possibly be one of your favorites during the trip.
Day Four
We’ll begin our morning capturing the Fairy Pools. A series of natural pools and waterfalls at the base of the Cuillin mountains. The water color is an enchanting aqua blue making them absolutely photogenic. We’ll then photograph the Loch Ainort Bridge before returning to our hotel for brunch.
Following an afternoon break we’ll enjoy a traditional cultural evening with whiskey tasting, storytelling and even learning a few steps of folk dancing with our local guide.
Day Five
Today is transfer day! We’ll bid farewell to Portree and make the three hour trip to Glencoe. As we make our way south, we’ll make a stop at Loch Ness and look for monsters. Upon arriving in Glencoe, we’ll get checked into our hotel before heading out to visit the famous Glennfinnan Viaduct to see the Jacobite train rolling though the valley.
Day Six
We’ll have a very early start as we depart the hotel and head to Kilchurn Castle to photograph this beautiful structure nestled in front of a beautiful loch. From there we’ll head to the breathtaking St. Conans Kirk before returning to the hotel for a break.
Following our break we’ll visit nearby waterfalls, the iconic rolling hills of Glencoe for sunset.
Day Seven
Once again, it’s a very early start to capture the beauty of Glencoe with it’s rolling hills, cottages, and red deer. We’ll take our time exploring these beautiful hills before stopping for coffee at the Kingshouse. From there we’ll make our way slowly back to the hotel for our afternoon break.
For sunset, we’ll be visiting other nearby valley’s and viewpoints to observe the moving light of the Highlands.
Day Eight
We’ll finish our trip, say our goodbyes and transportation will be provided to the Edinburgh airport. You may look at extending your trip by a couple days to explore one of this remarkable city on your own before returning home.
