Excursion Outline
If you love Charleston, flowers, macro and the south, you’ll love this one weekend workshop. Come join us for a retreat where we’ll photograph all the flowers in bloom in the Lowcountry.
We’ll start our day by meeting at the plantation at 9:00 a.m. followed by a short field tutorial and assignments given for you to work towards. As the weather warms and the light grows stronger we will break for lunch followed by a post processing session at the hotel.
During our post processing session you’ll look techniques that are friendly to beginners as well as some new ways to consider processing if you’re experienced.
Topics discussed in our post processing session will be using Photoshop, layers, filters, textures, and painterly techniques.
We’ll return after lunch for an afternoon of more photography. Extensive time will be given in the field to each participant to ensure you are fast-tracked in your flower photography.
After this one action packed weekend you’ll have a camera card filled with images, including several ready to print and hang in your home. If you don’t have a macro lens, don’t let this hold you back. You can easily rent a lens for the workshop. Ask us for details!

Your Experience
If you've ever wanted to learn or enhance your macro photography skills, Charleston is the perfect setting for you. In addition, you will find yourself in a relaxing setting with a professional photographer on hand to help guide you through the mechanical processes of your camera, and also focusing on the creative aspect of making beautiful images.
We will meet on Friday evening to begin our time together. Following dinner we’ll have a presentation to discuss the methods and lessons to be learned by incorporating classical compositions with our cameras to create compelling images. The following day we will spend in a relaxed setting photographing and learning how to intentionally work with the flowers and their natural shapes, curves and lines.
On our last day, we will continue in the field in the morning followed by brunch and spend some of our time in a classroom setting learning how to post process the images you created and approaching our digital darkroom much like a painter approaches canvas. You'll learn powerful techniques that will have the viewers of your images thinking you created a physical painting. We’ll end the day with a group critique.
Bonus Session
We've listened to our guests and have implemented something that has been hugely beneficial in our time together. Each workshop group attendee will receive an invite for 3 FREE MONTHS to our secure Photography Mentorship Program, Sharpen Your Shutter. Here, you will have access to a live and engaging, online post processing session, a short time after the workshop. This makes way for more shooting in the field and the option to learn from the comfort of your own home. It is recorded, giving you the ability to refer to the session as many times as you'd like for future reference. In addition, you'll find many courses, video tutorials, personal and monthly critiques, business coaching and so much more, surrounded and supported by a community of like-minded people!
