Excursion Outline
If the road less traveled is your preference, Umbria will quickly become your favorite.
Join the Photography Workshop Company on a culturally immersive photography adventure in the “green heart” of Italy. During this seven day tour, we will leave the tourists in Rome and embark on a journey that will guide you into the heart of what it means to be Italian!
This All-Inclusive workshop has been intentionally designed to not only provide exceptional photographic opportunities, but for our guests to become fully immersed in the culture. We believe that your artistic creativity will scale to new heights when you are equipped with the knowledge and experience of what life is like in these lesser known villages. Cultural experiences include learning how to make pasta sauce with Chef Cristian, enjoying aperi-cena in an olive grove, and learning to order your cappuccino in Italian all while staying in a boutique hotel. In addition, we will be guided by a local, because we know that nobody knows the hidden gems like locals do.
Unlike many of our other adventures, the pace for this workshop will be fairly relaxed. While photography is the priority, we want to ensure that you have ample time to wander the medieval villages, meet the people, and have an opportunity to explore on your own during the day.

EXPERIENCE • BEGINNER - ADVANCED
Our excursions are beneficial for both the beginner and seasoned photographer. All guests will experience one-on-one instruction, with the emphasis being on the individual's strengths and desires.ACTIVITY • MODERATE
Most of the locations we have scheduled will be within the ability of anyone who is in moderate shape. Although some walking will be necessary, there are no trecherous elements involved.TERRAIN • MEDIEVAL VILLAGES - CASTLES - ROLLING VISTAS
The green heart of Italy is known for it's spectacular beauty and unspoiled vistas. We'll capture crumbing castles, vists with medieval hill towns nestled into the hills, abandoned buildings and gorgeous panoramic views and more!GROUP SIZE • 10 GUESTS
We believe group size is important for the ability to provide as much one-on-one instruction in the field as necessary. Due to the help from locals on this trip, our group size will be six guests per instructor.
“Amazing. Fabulous. The best experience I could have ever hoped for. Tiffany and Keith are incredible teachers and two of the best hands-on instructors ever! Their skill in working with all different photographic levels was evident and their continual enthusiasm makes me want to go back for more, more, more. ”

Itinerary
All locations and times visited will be determined by the conditions given. All elements are watched closely for the best photographic and learning experience.
Bonus Session
We've listened to our guests and have implemented something that has been hugely beneficial in our time together. Each workshop group will be invited to a live, recorded, online critique and post processing session, a short time after the workshop. This makes way for more shooting in the field and the option to learn from the comfort of your home and the ability to refer to the recorded session for future reference.
Day One
Once you arrive in Rome, our driver will meet you at the airport and transport you to our first lodging in Umbria where both Tiffany and Pamela will be waiting with a warm welcome for you. Our leisurely evening will include an overview of the workshop. Immediately following, we’ll give you time to get settled before giving you a tour of our medieval town. Following our walking tour our hosts will provide apéritivo. Apéritivo is arguably one of the most beloved Italian rituals. Aperitivo is meant to "prepare" your stomach for the awaiting meal ahead. Following apértivo we’ll enjoy our first dinner together in the historic village.
Day Two
Our first sunrise location will be of a sweeping vistas and lush valleys. Following, we’ll visit an abandoned castle set atop a hill with gorgeous views from inside the walls. From there we’ll head out to photograph a breathtaking waterfall before ending in a village for cappacino and more photography. By mid day we’ll return to the hotel for a break. At 5:00 we’ll meet up again for apertivo and dinner at a local bistro for the best food Italy has to offer (we aren’t kidding about this). Following dinner we’ll venture out to learn how to capture the beautiful blue hour of a medieval village.
Day Three
On day three, we’ll be up for sunrise to capture more of the green heart of Italy. Following our sunrise shoot, we’ll stop for cappuccino and cornetto in a nearby village. Around mid day we’ll head back to our base village to visit a Franciscan Convent where you’ll photograph the interior frescos. You’ll also have time to do some shopping in the village before we meet once again for another cultural dinner.
Day Four
Our day will start incredibly early with our bags packed and loaded as we head north for our sunrise shoot. We’ll begin our photography by capturing the blue hour and sunrise at the Basilica di Assisi. From there we’ll have a short cappuccino break before we visit and capture the interior of the basilica. We’ll also do some photography of the village itself and allow time for shopping.
After we bid farewell to Assisi, we’ll check into our boutique hotel and give you a chance to get settled.
In the late afternoon we’ll gather together again for Apértivo and dinner at the hotel.
Day Five
We’re halfway through the workshop and today you get to sleep in! We’ll enjoy a leisurely breakfast together before closing down a restaurant and learning to make pasta sauce together by an Italian chef. A well made pasta sauce is a huge source of pride for Italian families, and we’ll learn the secrets of the sauce. Once finished Chef Cristian will prepare a fantastic lunch where we’ll dine outside if weather permits. Chef will also take us on a tour of the tunnels below his restaurant.
After lunch we’ll enjoy free time to explore Citta della Pieve. Be sure to find yourself a cappuccino at an outdoor bar during our break. For the evening, we’ll gather together in an olive grove for photography along while snacking on Bruschetta. From there we’ll enjoy the Italian tradition of aperi-cena (apertivo and an informal dinner).
Day Six
This morning’s shooting location will take your breath away. Not often included in photo workshops, this hidden gem is known by locals. The quiet medieval city sits high above the valley below and is often surrounded by dense fog making it appear that it’s floating in the clouds. From there we’ll head to the city of Orvieto to view the cathedral and photograph the village. You’ll get to explore the city at your own pace and for lunch you’ll be on your own. Grab a pizza and keep moving or enjoy a longer quieter lunch. We’ll return to our hotel and enjoy Aperi-Cena (apertivo and an informal dinner) at a nearby restaurant.
Day Seven
This workshop defines the road less traveled and we’ll start sunrise by placing ourselves directly in front of a vineyard with a village set off in the distance as the sun comes up. It’s truly a magical location. From there we’ll photograph a cypress line before continuing to a private property where the owner will give us a tour of his estate. Truly this might be one of the highlights of your trip. After we’ll enjoy wine and lunch followed by a lesson on wine tasting and the history of Umbrian wine. Our farewell dinner will be one to remember as we prepare to say goodbye the following morning.
Day Eight
We’ll finish our trip, say our goodbyes and transportation will be provided to the Rome Fiumicino airport. You may look at extending your trip by a couple days to explore one of these remarkable cities on your own before returning home.
